The book is divided into three parts based upon the National Institutes of Health guidance for conducting translational research. Part one details laboratory-scale analysis of gut microbiome samples and their functions. Part two explains translational research models including pre-clinical trials, animal studies, proof of concept safety, and efficacy. Part three focuses on larger-scale clinical trials that attempt to demonstrate the effectiveness of therapeutic treatments in larger populations"
